Ozonated Water for the Beverage Industry
As people demand more variety in beverages in bars and restaurants, ice hygiene and safety must keep improving to meet consumer standards. Modern operating procedures (HACCP) require stable, safe, and fast professional disinfection equipment to help improve beverage and ice safety, and microbiological control.
The use of ozone has now spread throughout much of the beverage industry where it is used in manufacturing plants that bottle everything from beer and wine, to soft drinks and juices.
BioSure Professional’s line of ozone disinfection equipment provides safe, bacteria-free ozonated water systems and ozone sanitizing water equipment for beverage filtration and water lines, including ice machines and draft beer lines, keeping customers safe and helping business owners save on the direct and indirect costs of chemical sanitation. BioSure Professional also provides a natural sanitizer that extends the time between maintenance and cleaning without affecting taste while creating a positive customer experience.

How Ozone Water Works
How Ozone Water Works for the Beverage Industry
Water Filters
Water filters should be regularly disinfected to remove bacteria and microorganisms. However, chemicals such as chlorine are often used to clean water filters, which can leave behind harmful chemical residues.
It is important that water filters are disinfected, as this will affect the cleanliness of the water passing through. However, filters are also prone to bacteria and limescale buildup, especially in hard water areas. Using ozone water is a safe and effective way of disinfecting water filters, ensuring that water is suitable for consumption.
Ozonated water for bottling
Bottlers are also seeing the benefits of ozone water. An electrolytic ozone water generator can produce ozone water that is used for bottle washing. It is a non-chemical alternative to disinfecting bottles before they are used to store drinks for consumer use. As a disinfectant, ozone water is 50 times more effective than chlorine, meaning that bottling companies can save large amounts of money on chemical cleaners.
Ozone water for ice makers
As ice machines can contain the same or even higher levels of bacteria than the average toilet bowl, dirty ice machines are a common issue in the beverage industry. Dirty ice machines can lead to outbreaks of Covid-19, however most consumers have probably never even considered the fact that machines are a breeding ground for harmful bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms.
Bar and restaurant owners are responsible for monitoring and maintaining the cleanliness of ice machines, and to only use water that is safe for consumption. However, chemical cleaners can leave behind harmful residue that can linger in water lines and be consumed by unsuspecting customers.
Aqueous ozone can be injected into water lines that supply ice machines, which prevents harmful pathogens from building up inside the machine. Ozone water kills bacteria it comes into contact with, so any remaining bacteria is eliminated once ozone water begins to flow through the machine. This is then frozen into ice, protecting them from nasty germs. This ice is perfectly suitable for consumption and is the best solution to combat bacteria riddled ice machines.
Ozone water for beverage waterlines
Ozone is a strong oxidant that acts as a natural disinfectant. Disinfecting using ozone removes the need for dangerous chemical disinfectants, and is an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional sanitization products. Installing a BioSure Post-Filtration Disinfection System (PFDS) from BES reduces the risk of illness through drinking water that has passed through dirty water lines.
Furthermore, ozone acts 3,000 times faster than chlorine, and is 50 times more effective. Ozone simply reverts into oxygen molecules after the sanitization process without emitting any harmful by-products. It protects water lines from further biofilm growth, even eliminating mold and bacterial growth.

Ozone water for Coffee or tea
Using ozone water with coffee or tea machines is an effective way to prevent biofilm from collecting in these beverage machines. Ozone water eliminates viruses, parasites, bacteria, and fungi, meaning that customers will not get sick from drinking tea or coffee that has passed through dirty, bacteria filled water lines.
This is safer as customers will not ingest harmful chemicals or substances left over from chemical disinfection products that have been used to disinfect water pipes.
